Annual St. Francis Picnic pageant schedule set

The traditional slate of beauty pageants are scheduled in conjunction with this year’s St. Francis Picnic, set for Saturday, July 20, at the picnic grounds in that community. Organizers note the registration fee for all pageants is $25 and will begin starting 30 minutes prior to each contest.

State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas families and businesses will save more than $483 million in income taxes next year, thanks to a tax cut passed by the legislature during a three-day special session. Also, Arkansas homeowners will see their property taxes go down by about $46 million because the legislature increased the homestead property tax credit from $425 to $500.

This week, the General Assembly convened for an Extraordinary Session, during which the legislature passed significant tax legislation. The new laws reduce the top individual income tax rate to 3.9%, the lowest since the tax was first enacted in the state in 1923.

Ferguson elected VFW Commander

Established on Sept. 18, 1948, the Rapert- Poyner VFW Post #8347 has seen many officers through the years, through the election and re-election process. This year is exceptionally special to the VFW as on June 4, 2024, they held their annual election of officers and for the first time in 76 years, elected a female commander, Army Veteran Retired, E-6 (SSG) Kimberly J. Ferguson. Ferguson served her country for 30 years and was deployed to Kuwait from Fort Bragg, N.C., with the 1st Theater Sustainment Command, as part of Third Army (Forward) in Kuwait, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

When I see or hear people trying to bully others into silence on the political issues at hand, I think that people have forgotten what freedom means. Our country’s founders often expressed their beliefs with passion and intensity.

Republicans cut taxes for wealthy Arkansans Let’s remember why we’re here: Back on Thursday, May 9, the last day of the 2024 Fiscal Session, a small group of House Republicans blocked passage of the appropriation for the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. The point of contention: an increase in the appropriation for the director’s salary from about $150,000 to about $190,000.

Two Corning trap shooting squads put their stocks on the money side earning Champion and Runner-Up in the Arkansas State Trap Shoot. The event was hosted by Jacksonville Parks and Recreation at the Arkansas Game and Fish Trap Shooting Complex in Jacksonville on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, through Sunday, June 23, 2024.
