Piggott hosts Clay County Tournament

The Piggott Little League baseball and softball teams hosted the Clay County Tournament this past weekend. 12U, 10U and 8U All Star teams from Piggott, Rector, Corning, and Marmaduke competed in the week long tournament.

Annual St. Francis Picnic pageant schedule set

The traditional slate of beauty pageants are scheduled in conjunction with this year’s St. Francis Picnic, set for Saturday, July 20, at the picnic grounds in that community. Organizers note the registration fee for all pageants is $25 and will begin starting 30 minutes prior to each contest.

State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas families and businesses will save more than $483 million in income taxes next year, thanks to a tax cut passed by the legislature during a three-day special session. Also, Arkansas homeowners will see their property taxes go down by about $46 million because the legislature increased the homestead property tax credit from $425 to $500.

This week, the General Assembly convened for an Extraordinary Session, during which the legislature passed significant tax legislation. The new laws reduce the top individual income tax rate to 3.9%, the lowest since the tax was first enacted in the state in 1923.
