Students on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists for the spring 2024 semester at Arkansas State University have been announced. The lists recognize undergraduate students who achieved the highest grade-point averages while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours of study.
The Corning Public Library’s Summer Reading Program has come to a successful end for 2024. The program connects children with books and encourages them to read for enjoyment and to learn about topics discussed during the summer program.
The Piggott Little League baseball and softball teams hosted the Clay County Tournament this past weekend. 12U, 10U and 8U All Star teams from Piggott, Rector, Corning, and Marmaduke competed in the week long tournament.
The annual Pollard Picnic, to benefit the New Hope Cemetery, will be held Saturday, July 13, in Pollard. As usual, this year’s picnic will include a full schedule of beauty pageants for contestants of all ages.
The traditional slate of beauty pageants are scheduled in conjunction with this year’s St. Francis Picnic, set for Saturday, July 20, at the picnic grounds in that community. Organizers note the registration fee for all pageants is $25 and will begin starting 30 minutes prior to each contest.

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas families and businesses will save more than $483 million in income taxes next year, thanks to a tax cut passed by the legislature during a three-day special session. Also, Arkansas homeowners will see their property taxes go down by about $46 million because the legislature increased the homestead property tax credit from $425 to $500.
This week, the General Assembly convened for an Extraordinary Session, during which the legislature passed significant tax legislation. The new laws reduce the top individual income tax rate to 3.9%, the lowest since the tax was first enacted in the state in 1923.
