After more than five years of steady progress in expanding research and outreach programs, the leading cancer institute in Arkansas is just about ready to apply for designation as a National Cancer Institute.

Demolition begins on Corning High School and Middle School campus

Around mid-July C.R. Crawford Construction began their demolition work to remove sections of the Corning High School and Corning Middle School campus. Superintendent Jennifer Woolard says that, “We are hopeful the demolition will be complete by August 13, the first day of classes. We are waiting on final approval of our plans for construction. Once those get approved we will send out bid packages and get going on accepting bids. I am hoping construction will begin 2-4 weeks after demo is complete. Right now the construction management company is saying 18.5 months from start of construction to completion.”

Well, it’s official, the grandbaby scoreboard is tied. With the reveal of our newest little bundle, Miss Ava Blayre, the boys are no longer running the show. And let me tell you, this JenJen is over the moon.

Important dates for back to school

Corning Public Schools has set back to school dates for students. The Back to School Bash will be August 7 from 1 to 6 pm at the Park Elementary Gym. There will be an Open House for all students on August 12 from 3 to 6 p.m. Students will return to school on August 13 with the morning bell set to ring at 7:45 a.m. Parents and students are to be reminded of the new Bell to Bell, No Cell policy that the district is using this year as well.
