The 2024 Miss McDougal Beauty Pageants were held on Saturday, August 31st at the McDougal Labor Day Picnic. All proceeds from the McDougal pageants go toward the maintenance of the Post Oak Cemetery. All winners received a crown, sash, and trophy plate. In the Miss McDougal division, Queen Mabrey Patrick received a scholarship for 3 Credit Hours from Black River Technical College. 1st Alternate - Jaycee McMillian received $100 and 2nd Alternate - Chloe Hendrix was awarded $100. With $1,300, a broke side-by-side, and the will to travel across the United States in order to create a life rich with experiences, a family of four from Elko, Nevada rode their horses into Corning on Thursday, Sept. 5. The White family spent the night at Kirby’s Lost Acres, owned by Jerry and Joyce Kirby.
This week, the House Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee reviewed a vital report from the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) regarding family preservation services. The data presented painted a hopeful picture of progress in our efforts to support Arkansas families and protect our children.

There will be a poll worker training for anyone who has NOT received poll worker training in the past year and who is interested in working in the General Election in November. During the years that cotton was king in the area, local merchants sponsored a “First Bale” contest with a $100.00 gift certificate to the person delivering the first 500-pound bale of cotton to a local gin… that’s how important cotton was to the local economy.
