Welcome back, Corning families! As we wrap up the second week of school, I want to extend a warm welcome to our returning students and a special greeting to the new families joining our community. The energy in our schools has been incredible, and it’s wonderful to see our hallways and classrooms once again filled with the sounds of learning and laughter.
The Corning Chamber of Commerce will host Saturday Night Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 6 with games starting at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Games will be held at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. Cash prizes, with 15 games being played. Players must be 18 years of age to play.
Mark your calendars for Corning’s Fall Citywide Yard Sale on October 3 & 4. The first yard sale of the year is fee, a $10 permit fee will be charged if you have previously had a yard sale this year. Permits are available at city hall.
Applications are now open for the 2025 Master Gardener Training Program, with in-person and online options available for participants interested in expanding their horticulture knowledge and community involvement.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott will host a reading retreat on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., lunch provided. The reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sugar Creek Country Club.
On August 25, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a Clay County deputy encountered 45-year-old Michael S. Lucas at a residence located at 207 Mitchel Street in Nimmons.

As spooky season approaches, planning is underway for this year’s Corning Boo Bash. Following the success of last year’s event, organizers are working to make this year’s celebration even bigger and better.
