School snack drive now underway

Corning Therapy and Living Center is holding a school snack drive that will continue until Aug. 28. Drop off location is at 831 N. Missouri Ave., in Corning. Items being accepted are granola bars, trail mix, fruit snacks, juice boxes and crackers with cheese. Please bring individually wrapped snacks, no homemade food items.

Corning Park Elementary PAWS is needing volunteers

The Corning Park Elementary PAWS organization is looking for volunteers for the upcoming school year. PAWS is looking for enthusiastic and active parent volunteers to join their team. Whether you can help a little or a lot, your time and talents make a big difference in the school community. If you are interested in joining contact us at corningpaws@gmail. com or reach out directly to Lindsey Keck or Jessica Guthrey. Background checks will need to be done before volunteering on campus. The next meeting is August 26 at 6 p.m. in the Park cafeteria.

HPMEC to host poetry workshop

Tthe Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will hold a poetry workshop in the educational center on Saturday, Nov. 8 with limited seating. HPEMC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site at 1913 Museum Row, formally known as 1021 West Cherry Street in Piggott.

Watch out! So far, best I can tell, we have had seven fogs during August, and we have a few more days to go! If you put stock in the old saying that the number of fogs in August indicate the number of snows in the Winter, you are probably preparing for a lot of slipping and sliding around. Maybe it will take care of the mosquito problem for next Summer!
