From Scratch
Winter is a time for deep reflection, warm comfort food, and, apparently, bird slapstick. The moment the snow starts falling, I go full hermit mode. You’ll find me cozied up in my flannel jammies, stationed by the fireplace, sipping something warm, and watching birds hurl themselves into my front door window like tiny, feathery torpedoes of poor decision-making. And I can’t help but wonder—do they feel embarrassed? Do they scan the sky, hoping sweet birdie Ethel didn’t see? Is there a bird named Jerry up there, already gathering material for the next bird roast? These are the things I contemplate while avoiding all forms of socialization.

Last week, a winter storm rolled into Northeast Arkansas like it was trying out for a role in The Day After Tomorrow. It didn’t just bring a dusting of snow—it brought bone-chilling temperatures, wind gusts that could slap the common sense out of you and the kind of road conditions that make you question every life choice leading up to that moment. And, as per Arkansas tradition, the entire state collectively lost its mind.
Corning Chamber of Commerce set to hold Saturday Night Bingo
The Corning Chamber of Commerce will host Saturday Night Bingo on March 8 at the MB Ainley, Jr. Community Center with games starting at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. Cash prizes for each game. Winner takes all for the last game of the night. The March special includes one book of games for $25 or grab two books for only $40.
Clay County deputies arrest parole violator after foot chase
A parole violator was taken into custody after leading deputies on a foot chase and discarding suspected drugs, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.
Two Corning residents charged with felony terroristic threatening
Two Corning residents are facing felony charges after police executed warrants in connection to a reported threat earlier this week.
Moser receives First Band honors at Regional
Congratulations to Rowan Moser, the daughter of Melanie and Michael Moser, for placing first band, third chair at regional competition. This means that Rowan is one of the forty trumpet players in the state. What makes this accomplishment even more outstanding is that Rowan, a sophomore, competed at this level for the first time and was competing against juniors and seniors.
Corning Alumni encouraged to support scholarship fund for CHS Class of 2025
Former residents of Corning and alumni of Corning High School have an opportunity to give back by contributing to a scholarship fund for the CHS Class of 2025.
Say “Yes” to the Dress Event to help with prom
A Say “Yes” to the Dress Event will be held on March 15 at the Corning High School auditorium. The event is hosted by Corning School District T.H.R.I.V.E.S. (Teaching hope, resilience, inclusion, values and empathy for every student). They will be accepting donations of dresses, sports jackets, shoes, jewelry and more. The drop-off locations are Young’s Auctions and Resale or the Corning High School office. The goal of the event is to provide a fun, free event to high school students for prom. Community involvement is so important in the success of the school district.
School Notes
The Corning School Board met at 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the boardroom with four members present. President Scobey was unable to attend. Also in attendance was Michael Dobbs from First Security Beardsley Financial Advisors. The first items on the agenda were the approval of minutes followed by the financial report.
