Search warrant execution leads to three arrests

On September 23, 2024, at approximately 1 :33 P.M. the Clay County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant west of Corning. The search warrant was for a residence at 208 County Road 137, Apartment 3. The Sheriff’s Department had been looking for 37 year old Travis Burkheart of Biggers for several days. Mr. Burkheart had several warrants for his arrest. The Sheriff’s Department had received information that Burkheart was staying at this residence. When the Sheriff’s Department entered the residence they noticed drug paraphernalia in the apartment, and a male subject was seen by a Corning police officer discarding a black box out the back door. The Sheriff’s Department was also advised by residents of the apartment that the Burkheart subject had just left and went into the woods in front of the apartment. Two deputies went into the woods and found Burkheart. Burkheart had a knife in one hand, and brass knuckles on the other. Burkheart was told by the deputies to put the weapons down, but he refused. A deputy deployed his taser on Burkheart, and he was taken into custody. Due to drug paraphernalia being seen in the apartment, the Sheriff’s Department requested another search warrant.
