CMS elects student council

Corning Middle School recently elected their 2024-2025 Student Council members. Prior to the election, the halls were lined with campaign posters and those running for office gave speeches before the study body on election day. Rex Allen Harmon

Rex Allen Harmon was born on June 26, 1942, in Trumann, Arkansas and died peacefully on September 27, 2024, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He graduated from Knobel High School and served two tours in the Naval Construction Force in Okinawa and Vietnam. Rex was a jack of all trades who worked in construction, farmed, and was owner/operator of Harmon Brothers Flying Service. His intellectual curiosity and love of learning led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in 1987. Rex will be remembered for his cheerful, kind, and energetic spirit, always looking forward to new adventures. His passions included reading, history, sailing, flying, traveling with his beloved wife, carpentry, solar oven projects, and general tinkering. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Viola Harmon, and his brothers, Billy Joe, Tommy, and Terry Harmon. He is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Kelly Harmon and Elizabeth Caton; his eight siblings, Evelyn Walker, Virginia Shaw, Sue Henry, Priscilla Miller, Linda Fitzgerald, Ronald Harmon, Sherry Walrath, and Deborah Keas; as well as many other cherished family members and friends. Rex’s legacy of warmth, curiosity, and love of life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Corning FFA celebrates National Teach Ag Day at Park

Corning FFA Officers and members jumped at the opportunity to share their knowledge about agriculture with second graders at Park Elementary on National Teach Ag Day on Sept. 20. FFA members shared their expertise with 2nd graders when took some of their Clay County Fair winners over to the outdoor classroom at Park. They taught students about the animals’ breed, their characteristics, how each placed in show at the fair as students enjoyed petting the animals.
