Suspected kidnapper arrested

On September 26, 2024, Corning Dispatch received a phone call from the Jackson Police Department in Tennessee of a possible kidnapping of an adult female in their city. The officer advised that the suspect and the victim may possibly be in the Corning area. The officer also advised that the suspect was armed with a knife that was used in the kidnapping. Officers with the Corning Police Department located the suspect vehicle, a red Dodge Ram pickup with Tennessee tags at the Parkview Motel. Officers were then able to take the suspect into custody without incident. The victim was taken to an area hospital. 32 year old Calvin Wilkes Jr. of Tennessee, was arrested and charged with §5-11-102 Kidnapping a Class Y Felony and §514-103 Rape a Class Y Felony and taken to the Clay County Detention Center. On September 28, 2024, District Judge Dan Stidham ordered Mr. Wilkes to be held without bond.
