Arkansas Sales Tax Holiday this weekend

Back to School supplies and clothing can be financially stressful for families as they prepare their children for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual Arkansas Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, and continue until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 4 to help alleviate back to school expenses. The sales tax exemption applies to single articles, and is not based on the overall cost of everything purchased.

Thompson awarded Borden-McClendon Scholarship

Clay County Assessor, Tracy Gurley recently announced that Mollie Thompson is one of the 2023-2024 recipients of the eighteenth annual Borden-McClendon Scholarship. The Borden-McClendon Scholarship is comprised of two $1,000 scholarships given away each year by the Arkansas Assessor’s Association to an employee, child of an employee, grandchild or great-grandchild of an assessor’s office employee in the State of Arkansas.

Volleyball team participates in team bonding

The CHS Volleyball Team recently made a trip to Crown Lake Aqua Park in Horseshoe Bend. This is the second year in a row the team has gone on a team bonding trip to the facility. Coach Drew Radcliff said they were treated well and they enjoyed the time together. “We try to do a team bonding trip every year where we can all spend time together and just relax,” said Radcliff. “This year we have a lot of girls that are going to be on the court with ones they have never played with, so it gives them a chance to bond and get acquainted with one another.” The girls also enjoyed a meal in Ash Flat and ice cream after time at the park.

House of Representatives State of Arkansas District 1 This week, the House Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee received updates on the ongoing efforts by state agencies to enhance accessibility in their facilities for individuals with disabilities. In 2022, Arkansas State Parks initiated a collaboration with the non-profit organization Accessibility Across Arkansas to enhance access to state parks for individuals with disabilities.
