State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – Four election laws passed by the legislature in 2021 will continue to be enforced, thanks to an Arkansas Supreme Court ruling that upholds their constitutionality. The four laws were immediately challenged after the 2021 regular session, during which the legislature enacted a long series of election integrity laws.

Semi crashes into Current River; results in secondary accident

An 18-wheeler took an unexpected detour when it drove through the guard rail, off the Current River Bridge on Hwy 67 in Randolph County and into the Current River on Monday, May 27 at approximately 3 p.m. Photos from Randolph County Sheriff Kevin Bell show the scene on Monday as deputies and the Arkansas State Police worked the accident. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Shooting Straight- Alternative firearms season opens new options for Arkansas deer hunters

LITTLE ROCK — Among the dozens of regulations changes passed at the May 16 Arkansas Game and Fish Commission meeting in El Dorado, one stood head and shoulders above the rest in creating the most chatter among the state’s deer hunting community. Arkansas hunters will now be able to use non-semiautomatic firearms that shoot straight-wall metallic cartridges of .30 caliber or larger during Arkansas’s muzzleloader season. The same firearms also will be legal during modern gun season in Deer Zones 4 and 5, which traditionally only allowed muzzleloaders and shotguns firing slugs.
