Leslie “Les” Mizell

Leslie Lowell Mizell, affectionately known as “Les,” passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024, in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 74. Born on September 4, 1949, in Corning, Arkansas, Les lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family, community, and country.

Homecoming Picnic and Parade returns to July 4

The Corning Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2024 Annual 4th of July Homecoming will be held on Thursday, July 4th this year. In 2023, the Chamber held the Homecoming events on Saturday, July 1 in hopes it would draw more people to Corning and participation in the local celebration. This year, they decided to return the Corning celebration to the holiday date of Thursday, July 4.

State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – The number of fatalities in Arkansas due to drug overdoses declined faster than the national average last year, according to records maintained by the Centers for Disease Control. From 2022 to 2023 the number of fatalities dropped by 13.7 percent, from 591 fatalities caused by an overdose to 510 fatalities.

Today, it has reached alarming levels, making Arkansas one of the two most food-insecure states in the nation. Sadly, while our farmers and food industries feed the world every day, and yet 1 in 4 Arkansas children go to bed hungry every night.
