For your reading enjoyment, we continue to publish Rambling Vines by the late Marylea Vines as she recalls events and names of Corning folks from many years ago. We are currently in the year 1990 Democratic elections used to be held in July and August before air conditioning and I loved them.

Letter to the Editor

I really like the column, “Hostages in the War on Morality” as both a newspaper editor and as a pastor. Most evangelical churches have the flag on the stage somewhere. I moved ours to storage because church is not about the USA. I refuse to speak on politics. I speak out on social issues that I believe the Bible is clear about but from a moral sense, not a political sense.

Free Fishing Weekend begins June 7 Fishing Derby – June 8

Families may visit one of the four state hatcheries for the annual fishing derbies on Free Fishing Weekend beginning on Saturday, June 8 from 8 a.m. – Noon. These events are for families; all adults and children must register prior to the derby. Families are encouraged to bring their fishing fear and bait along with chairs, water, sunscreen and snacks. There is a limit of three fish per person.

CSD honors four retirees

The Corning School District honored four retiring faculty and staff members on Thursday, May 23 in the high school cafeteria. Pictured are Jerry Songer, Girls Head Basketball and Softball Coach, who has coached in the Corning School District for 12 years; Marlena Beeman, 2nd Grade teacher, who has taught students in the district for 25 years; Pam Elders, who has served Corning students for 29 years, first as counselor at the high school and then at Park Elementary; and Donna Hannah, who has served the district in the cafeteria at Park Elementary for seven years.

CSD announces TOY and EOY for 2024

The Corning School District has announced Shawna Radcliff is the 2024 Teacher of the Year for the district and Andera Edwards has been recognized as the district’s Employee of the Year. Superintendent Jennifer Woolard said, “Both Mrs. Radcliff and Mrs. Edwards exemplify the qualities that we want our staff to have. They both go above and beyond to assist our students and their families as well as serve as mentors for our staff. We are very fortunate that they are part of our Bobcat family.”
