The Corning School Board met on Monday, May 20 at 5:00 p.m. in the CSD Board Room with all members present. The first item of business was the approval of last month’s minutes. Next, the board approved the financial report as presented followed by the approval of a Bus Wrap for the Bus/Mobile Library. Funds for the mobile library are provided through the SOAR Grant.

I know a chemistry teacher named Nate who treats talking about isotopes like calling out winning Powerball numbers. Kids don’t often hide their phones in their laps when Nate lectures about chemistry. Instead, they lean forward in their desks and connect with the excitement emanating from their teacher. They strive to understand what he is teaching and race to demonstrate their understanding because they know he does this “shaking thing” when he gets excited and lets out a howl that you can hear from the hallway. And there is no better way to get Nate excited than by showing him you understand something about science.
Discusses and Passes Bridge Resolutions On Monday night, May 20, the Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session at the courthouse in Piggott with all justices in attendance. After roll call, motion was made and passed to waive the reading of the previous month’s minutes.

The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) recently recognized Todd Willis, a teacher at Coldwater Elementary School in the Tate County School District, for being named the 2024 Mississippi Rural Teacher of the Year. The recognition happened Thursday, May 16 during the SBE monthly board meeting.
LITTLE ROCK – The Division of Children and Family Services will try to recruit more foster families among health care professionals, educators and businesses. Officials of the Division were joined by the governor at an announcement to mark the first day of National Foster Care Month.
