Each year, Clay County Extension offers a 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Program for high school juniors in cooperation with local schools and sponsors. Allie Foster, Jasmine James, and Joslin Ward were the recipients of the 2023 Clay County Youth Leadership Citizenship Team Scholarships their junior year and received the scholarships this year as seniors. Allie Foster and Jasmine James were chosen as the outstanding youth leaders from Corning High School and were each awarded the $1,200 Joan Bauschlicher and Martin Ahrent Scholarship presented by Blake Ahrent, Matthew Ahrent and Tim Bauschlicher, along with Clay County Extension Agent Christin Holmes. Joslin Ward was chosen as the outstanding youth leader from Rector High School and was awarded the $1,000 Outstanding Youth Leader Helping Hands Scholarship. The YLTC Program was established to provide eleventh grade students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills necessary to improve their school environment and encourage them to become actively involved in their communities by volunteering. The participants attend seven workshops where they build self-confidence, team building, trust, accountability, and leadership skills that prepare them to engage in the challenges they encounter in life so they can make a positive impact on where they live.
