Total Solar Eclipse reveals dark side of Moon

The long awaited Total Solar Eclipse occurred as predicted by scientists and astronomers making its path right through the heart of Arkansas and Corning on Monday, April 8. With sunny skies, high temperatures in the low 80s and a south wind at 10-15 mph, the scenario was set for a perfect viewing of the rare celestial treat. The eclipse began at 12:39 PM when the new Moon first touched the sun and ended at 3:15 PM. Totality began at 1:55 PM and as the sky darkened and the eclipse peaked at 1:57 PM, birds began to chirp, bugs began stirring, and the temperature dropped a few degrees as viewers saw a rare glimpse of the dark side of the Moon as it completely overshadowed the Sun. The totality ended at 1:59 PM with the Sun reclaiming its rightful spotlight in the sky. For 3 minutes and 56 seconds, every living thing in the area shared in the experience with upturned faces to the sky.
