Rambling Vines

For your reading enjoyment, we continue to publish Rambling Vines by the late Marylea Vines as she recalls events and names of Corning folks from many years ago. We are currently in the year 1990 I have to go down in history as having a chronic bellyache, but a number of things around town sure aren’t going to suit me these days… and I’m not the only one unhappy over losing Hop Alley, the depot and the county jail, others have told me how they feel about it.

CSD holds first public meeting concerning proposed mills increase

The Corning School District held the first of four public meetings concerning the proposed millage increase on the ballot for the March 5, 2024 election on Thursday, February 8 at 6 p.m. in the Corning High School Library. Superintendent Jennifer Woolard presented information regarding why the millage increase was necessary for the school district. She explained that the Corning High School buildings were constructed in 1967 and there is concern that the structural integrity of the buildings could put Corning in facilities distress in the future as the buildings were not constructed for the safety concerns of today. Some of the concerns are with flooding, electrical, plumbing, and sewer systems. Pictures painted a thousand words as Woolard showed several photos during her presentation of the issues the campus is facing on a regular basis.

SRO Appreciation

February 15 is National School Resource Officer Day. We are blessed to have Micayla McClung as our new SRO at Corning Schools. Officer Mc-Clung has seven years in law enforcement having spent those years as a patrolman, a probation/parole officer with a specially court, and now as CSD’s School Resource Officer. She is married to Corning Chief of Police Blaine McClung and has four children who attend Corning Schools. When asked about why she chose law enforcement and a school resource officer she said she wanted to be a part of the community and to interact with students on a more personal level. Her goals for our schools are to interact with the students more frequently and to grow the DARE program at the middle school and high school campuses. We appreciate SRO Mc-Clung and want to wish her a happy National SRO Day! Thank you for being a part of our Bobcat Family!
