The Corning Junior High Chess Team competed in the NEA Co-Op Chess Tournament on Monday, Oct. 23. Nathan Davis went undefeated all day and was named the NEA Co-Op Junior High Co-Chess Champion. Phillip Nipper received a trophy for winning 4 of his 5 chess matches at the tournament. There were 83 participants from surrounding schools in this tournament.

Young critical thinkers at Park Elementary and Corning Middle School participated in the first annual Bobcat Science Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The science fair was open to students in Kindergarten through the 8th Grade. Students’ projects were scored based on a twopart system; the display and information presented, as well as an interview with two judges. The stu- dents had to be able to describe and explain their project without the assistance of their boards.
Roberta Forbes, 89, of Hot Springs, formerly of Corning, passed away October 17, 2023 at Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs. Mrs.
Paul Wade, 83, of Corning passed away October 19, 2023 at Corning Therapy and Living Center. Mr.

Senior ads for the Corning High School Yearbook are obtainable until Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023. They are available in two sizes: Half page - $125 and Full page - $200 Payment is due by Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024.

Parent-teacher conferences are wonderful opportunities to increase communication between school and home, keep parents informed about their child’s progress, and make plans for the student’s future. Although parent-teacher conferences are sometimes dreaded by all parties involved, they don’t have to be a bad experience.


3rd and 4th graders at Park Elementary were given an assignment in which they had to create a book character using a pumpkin. They had to first choose a book, read it, complete a book report on the book and then create their book character using a pumpkin. After completing the assignment, the students presented their book reports and characters to their classmates.
