Knobel Waterslide Day fun for all

Lions Club $10,000 raffle underway
The Corning Lions Club is hosting their annual raffle for $10,000 for a donation of $100 to be given away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. All proceeds go to the Corning Lions Club for Sight Conservation. There are only 200 tickets available for purchase and they may be purchased from a Lions Club member or at Red Taylor Ford. Participants do not have to be present to win.
Corning FFA students earn fair awards
Corning FFA had a great week at the Clay County Fair. According to CHS FFA advisor, Sarah Green, students worked all summer diligently raising their livestock and practicing showmanship.
Lady Bobcats hosting fundraiser raffle
Members of the community have an opportunity to support the Corning Lady Bobcat Basketball team by participating in their fundraiser raffle. Prizes include a 36” Black-Stone griddle with cover valued at $600, a $100 gift card for Cate Pharmacy, and a collectible Case tractor valued at $150. Tickets are $10 with three chances to win. Winners will select their prize in the order their names are drawn. Tickets may be purchased from any Lady Bobcat basketball player. The drawing will be Oct. 3, 2023.
Christmas in the Park preparing for 2023 season
The Christmas in the Park Committee is making plans for the 2023 lighting of Wynn Park which will occur in two months, on Saturday, Nov. 25. The committee is accepting funds and donations for the 2023 Christmas season. This annual event involves thousands of Christmas lights and various figurines placed at Wynn Park to commemorate the season that will last from the Saturday following Thanksgiving through January 1, 2024. Donations may be made by businesses, individuals or organizations. The committee will accept outdoor decorations in good working order, Christmas Trees of any size and of course financial support in any amount. The com- mittee is seeking businesses, individuals and organizations to decorate an entire booth, which will be seen by persons walking in the park as well as traffic along Highway 67. Clay County Quorum court met in regular session on Monday, Sept. 18, at the courthouse in Piggott with Justice David Cagle absent.
Corning traffic stop ends in drug arrests
On Sept. 16, 2023 at approximately 11:10 p.m. a Clay County deputy made a traffic stop on a pickup truck pulling a trailer with no lights or license plates on the trailer. The stop was made at Casey’s in Corning. While the deputy was dealing with one of the individuals, a passenger in the vehicle tried to hide and destroy a small baggy that later tested positive as methamphetamine. A search was conducted of the individuals and vehicle, where illegal items were found. Arrested and transported to the Clay County Detention Center were 45-year-old Kelly A. Clossen of Corning. He was booked in for Possession of Controlled Substance Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony Tampering with physical evidence. The second subject, 58-year-old Gordon K. Crosland of Walnut Ridge was booked in for Possession of Controlled Substance Methamphetamine, and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The Corning Police Department assisted with the traffic stop.
Corning PD responds to one vehicle crash
The Corning Police Department responded to a one vehicle crash on Monday, Sept. 18 that occurred at 4:58 a.m. at Clay 1412 Road. Officer James Harmon arrived at the scene of a 2012 Volvo Waba, Tractor/semi-trailer, driven by Collins Emeka Llolo, 41 of Richmond, TX, which was overturned. According to the accident report, the Volvo hit the bridge on Hwy 67 West, ran off the highway, struck a cable pole and the truck rolled over. The damage to the truck leaked out fuel and oil into the field. A Hazmat team responded to the scene.

Engel out-picks to win
Larry Engel out-picked game participants choosing 13 correct games, and edging out four other participants who were tied in second place for the win. This is Engel’s first win for the 2023 game season. The game entry on page
