State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – This year back to school activities in Arkansas have historic importance, thanks to the far-reaching changes in Act 237 of 2023. Act 237 is the LEARNS Act, proposed by the governor and approved by the legislature earlier this year.

ADE cuts AP African American Studies

In a last-minute move, the Arkansas Department of Education last Friday called teachers who’d prepared to teach AP African American Studies this year that the state was pulling the course. Because ADE called teachers directly, apparently bypassing principals and other school officials, the news broke slowly. And because it broke late on a Friday, it was tough to get quick answers.

It seems that in these days of the twilight of my mortal existence, my reflections on life, mortality, and the manner of my behavior in this period of my adulthood, have come to focus in my mind. They cause me to question habits and behavior back into the days of my youth. Why have I always done this or that? Why do I fear some things that my friends or family just take for granted? Why do certain actions attract my thinking, whereas others seem to give them no thought?

sesquicentennial snapshot

Celebrating 150 Years of the City of Corning & Clay County in 2023 Winter weather has hampered construction of an addition to the rear (Vine Street) of The Corning Bank but a completion date of February 15 is expected to be met by the contractor. The addition will be constructed of concrete blocks with exterior of dark red brick matching the bank building.
