50-year old Courier returns home

A piece of Corning has returned home from Texas in the form of a 50-year-old special newspaper edition. Della Moyer works at the Freedom Museum USA in Pampa, Texas and contacted the Courier last week describing a special edition that was laying around the museum. The edition commemorates the Corning centennial in 1973. Moyer said a person came into their history museum and left the Centennial Edition of the Clay County Courier with a volunteer. Moyer, who works in the archives at one museum and curates exhibits at another, soon realized that the paper had nothing to do with Texas or their area, but was from Arkansas. Other than yellowing of the newsprint, the special edition is in complete and perfect condition with A-F sections intact. Courier Editor Pam Lowe explained to Moyer the coincidence of finding the Centennial Edition as this year is the City of Corning’s 150th anniversary. Moyer surmised that perhaps the newspaper had been discovered in an estate sale or kept for safekeeping given its good condition. It remains a mystery as to where the special edition has been for 50 years and who turned it into the Texas museum.
