Maynard Alumni & Friends Reunion to be held Sept. 16
Maynard alumni & friends of all ages will come from various places, as well as locally, and gather for an evening of fun on Saturday evening, September 16, 2023 at the Maynard High School Cafeteria at 5:00 p.m. for the 33rd Maynard Alumni and Friends reunion. Many classes will be hosting reunions at this time. Please advise if your class and guests wish to be seated together.

Work begins on art students’ first paintings of the year
The 8th grade and beginning art students in Christina Patterson-Swint’s art classes have begun working on their first painting of the year. .
School Board hires SRO in special meeting
The Corning School Board met on August 17, 2023 at 5:00 pm in the board room with four members present. Chris Shourd was unable to attend. The board approved the recommendation from Corning Mayor Greg Ahrent to accept Mikayla Mc-Clung as the CPD assigned School Resource Officer for the Corning School District and to approve the updated SRO MOU with the City of Corning. SRO Mc-Clung will be employed by CPD but will work at Corning Schools. Next, the resignation of Abbigail Horton as custodian at Park Elementary and her employment as Paraprofessional at Park Elementary was approved. The last item of business was discussion of new rules concerning student transfers in and out of the district. The board approved a Resolution for student transfers in accordance with Section 6-18-316 of the Arkansas Code and approved the recommended student transfer to Sloan Hendrix. There being no further business, President Scobey adjourned the meeting.

Kindergarteners kick off ABC Bootcamp
For 26 days the kindergarteners at Park Elementary will be learning the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. In order to make this important foundation to reading fun, teachers are encouraging students to bring an object to school that begins with the letter of the day or to dress up as something that begins with that letter.
Corning responds to Foster Godfather designation
During the July 1 Corning Independence Day Homecoming Picnic at Wynn Park, the City of Corning, Chamber of Commerce and Growing Corning Together signed a certificate designating Erastus Corning, III the Foster Godfather of Corning, Arkansas.


Clay County Quorum Court Meets in Regular Session
The Clay County Quorum Court met on Monday, Aug. 21, at the courthouse in Corning with Justice Dennis Haines being absent.

AAC safety awards announced at conference
LITTLE ROCK – The Association of Arkansas Counties (AAC) awarded its annual safety awards during its 55th annual conference, held Aug. 9-11, 2023, in Rogers/ Benton County.

Corning Golf Team hosts 5 schools
It was a fine day to hit the green as the Corning Golf Team hosted boys and girls’ teams from Manila, Rivercrest, Rector, Piggott, and Buffalo Island Central (BIC) on Thursday, August 17 at the Victory Lake Golf Course.
