Alice Veneta Stevens Amick passed away on August 23, 2023 at the age of ninety nine years, nine months. Veneta was born to Charles Edward and Martha Miranda Victoria Clark Stevens on November 27, 1923 at Beech Grove, Greene County, Arkansas. Veneta was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother, caring sister, and friend. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Veneta was baptized at an early age and faithfully followed the teachings of Christ throughout her life.

Cheerleader, with Corning ties, to perform in London New Year’s Day Parade

San Angelo, Texas – Texas Leadership High School is proud to announce that its Varsity Cheer member, Sophomore Sydnee Davis, will represent Varsity Spirit, the global leader in cheerleading, dance team and band apparel, camps and competitions, and a division of Varsity Brands, the market leader in team sports, school spirit and achievement recognition, in the London New Year’s Day Parade in London, England from December 26, 2023 – January 2, 2024. Cheerleaders, dancers, and drum majors who are invited to perform in the London New Year’s Day Parade are part of a select group of All-Americans identified at Varsity Spirit summer camps across the country. All-Americans are based on superior cheerleading, dance, or drum major skills as well as leadership skills at camps operated by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), Universal Dance Association (UDA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), National Dance Alliance (NDA), United Spirit Association (USA) or Urban Cheerleading Experience (UCE). Texas Leadership High School attended UCA Camp at Angelo State University, July 16-19 where she was selected as an All-American. Only the top 12% of the cheerleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit camps earn the chance to participate in a performance of this caliber. “We are thrilled to be back participating in the London New Year’s Day Parade, and that these excellent athletes will have the chance to perform and experience one of our Special Events abroad,” said Bill Seely, President of Varsity Spirit. “We are honored to provide athletes a one-ofakind opportunity, where they will meet and connect with cheerleaders, dancers, and drum majors from across the United States, as well as be a part of an international and historical parade experience.” Sydnee Davis will perform with Varsity Spirit All-Americans in an exclusive performance on Piccadilly. Runnin’ Scared 5K set Sept. 16

The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and off-road running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www. runsignup.com/ Race/AR/ Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1. Walkup registrations will be accepted the day of the race at Pumpkin Hollow from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. All proceeds of this race will be donated to the Hall & Gravel Hill cemetery association and the NEA Food Bank.
