For your reading enjoyment, we continue to publish Rambling Vines by the late Marylea Vines as she recalls events and names of Corning folks from many years ago. Winds during a thunderstorm on Sunday, July 2 left its mark in Corning as they damaged the roofs of some homes in Corning. They also blew down some trees at the Victory Lake Golf Course, broke U.S. flags off utility poles and stopped a lane of traffic in front of the old Walmart building when a pole was blown over caused power lines to lower over the highway stopping semi-trucks for a time.
Reading makes migrants of us all, letting us travel away from home and yet finding homelands for us everywhere. No one knows this better than historical fiction writer Larry Murley who returned home to Clay County this week in honor of the sesquicentennial.
