CSD encourages students to “take a book, share a book”
Corning students will have access to free book libraries, take-home learning kits, parent and family learning events, and additional learning materials thanks to a grant through the Successful Outcomes for Arkansas Readers (SOAR) program. Last week a free library was set up for students in front of the Clay County Courier using the funds as well as at Red Taylor Ford and the Corning Police Department. Students living in the Knobel community can also enjoy the free library set up by the Corning School District in front of the Farm Service a couple weeks ago. There are plans to place more free libraries this week.

Mustangs donate to Knobel Cemetery Assoc.
The last graduating class of Knobel High School may have been in 1985, but former students of the Knobel School District continue to support and contribute to their community. Alumni of the Knobel School swapped stories and reminisced with old friends on Saturday, July 1 at the Knobel School Reunion at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. Through the event, the Mustangs raised $953 for the Knobel Cemetery Association from donations after building rental and expenses for the reunion were paid. The association takes care of the Bonds, Hosea, Allen and St. Bernard’s cemetery, which are maintained solely by donations. Donations can be mailed to the Knobel Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 104, Knobel, AR, 72435.

After the meal, Chavez and Charlotte Madsen engaged in a watermelon seed spitting contest outside the center to see who could spit seeds the farthest. When the last spittle had landed, JoAnn was declared the winner.
