St. Francis Picnic wrap-up
Despite the usual hot summer weather, good crowds were on hand for the traditional food, fun and pageants Saturday as the annual St. Francis Picnic was held. The picnic is held in mid-July each year, with the proceeds benefiting both the Hall and Gravel Hill Cemeteries.

For your reading enjoyment, we continue to publish Rambling Vines by the late Marylea Vines as she recalls events and names of Corning folks from many years ago. We are currently in the year 1989 This week marks the 50th anniversary of the availability of electricity to the area’s rural residents… to about 80 percent of today’s population, that “no big deal”, but to those of us who can remember no electricity we still marvel at all the modern day conveniences that people think they can’t live without.

Celebrating 150 Years of the City of Corning & Clay County in 2023 The above group of children who are enrolled in Guthrie’s Morning Kindergarten for 1973-74 made a visit to The Courier on the first day of school, Monday. The group includes: Deanna Kay Johnson, Jimmy Duane Leach, Andrea Suzanne Smith, James Wayne Curtis, Dana Lynne Black, Aubrey Glen Williams, Helene Michelle VanDerGrif, Sheridan Keith Rouse, Dwight Lee Johns.

B.R.A.D. recipient of former Pizza Hut property
Charles James of James Family Properties, LLP recently donated the Pizza Hut building on Hwy 67 West to Black River Area Development (BRAD) and the strip of land east of the parking lot. Rhonda Ahrent, Excecutive Director of B.R.A.D. stated the building and the adjoining property will be sold.
