Magnolia and Rector Teachers Named Rural Teachers of the Year Little Rock, Ark. — The 2023 Arkansas Rural Education Association’s Teachers of the Year are Christy Owen of the Magnolia School District and Lauren Dorman of the Rector School District.
Friday nights are about to get a lot more exciting as the 2023 Corning Football season is set to start on August 25. The Cats have been preparing this summer for the change to 8-Man football. The Bobcats also participated in the annual Soncom Media NEA Sports Football Media Day on Wednesday, July 12. The event was livestreamed on Soncom Media’s Facebook page. Headcoach Coach Farrell Shelton and seniors, Jason Liau, Free Safety and Wide Receiver, Izaiah Hollowell, Outside Linebacker and Receiver and Danny Watson, Offensive/ Defensive Line discussed Bobcat football. To begin the discussion, Coach Shelton explained Corning’s change to 8-Man Football in 2023 and the hopes to bring excitement back to Corning football. The coach portrayed 8-Man football as five players on the line and three on the back field with the freedom to design the defense in any manner. He said that touchdowns will remain 6 points, and as it was explained to him by coaches from 8-Man teams, some fields will be 80 yards for slower teams and faster teams will have fields that will be 100 yards.
Melvieda Hays, 88 of Corning, AR., passed away July 14, 2023 at home. Mrs.
Anna Louise Eaton passed away at her home in Fort Smith, AR on July 14, 2023 at the age of 97. She was born in Rector, AR on December 4, 1925 to Ezra L.
Growing Corning Together will be hosting free Water Slide Days for the community. Kids of all ages will be able to enjoy the first of two Water Slide Days at the Corning Community Center on Saturday, July 22 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The event is open for all ages. The date for the second Water Slide Day is August 26.
In addition to the musical highlights to be offered at the Ford Room on Thursday, July 20, the VIP Meet and Greet will again be a treat. Mavis Smith Auction Company will again donate a light buffet supper for VIP ticket holders. It has been a remarkable journey for the Sugar Creek group. Rector music lovers will enjoy socializing with the men and discussing their career and talent.
