Piggott Fourth of July pageant schedule set

A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress. The pageants will start off at 4:30 p.m. on the evening of Monday, July 3, with Little Miss Piggott, for ages five to eight years old. At 5:30 p.m. will be girls ages nine through 12 years for the Young Junior Miss Pageant, and at 6:30 p.m. will be the Young Miss Piggott for ages 13 and 14. A new division this year will be Ms. Piggott for ages 21 and up. This will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, following the parade and speakers, the pageants will resume at 11:30 a.m. with the Baby Mister and Baby Miss Piggott contest for ages birth through 11 months. The Tiny Mister and Tiny Miss Piggott will be held at 12:30 p.m., this is for ages 12 months through 23 months. Following a break during the day for entertainment on the stage, the pageants will resume with the Little Mister and Little Miss Petite beginning at 6:30 p.m. for entrants two to four years of age. The highlight of the day will begin at 7:30 p.m. as Miss Piggott 2023 will be chosen from young ladies ages 15 to 20 years old. This is always a highly anticipated event.

Sheriff Dept. Arrest Reports

On June 18, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The Clay County Sheriff’s Department conducted a probation search at 107 NW 2nd St in Corning, the residence of Lucas Leonard. Upon a search of the residence 26-yearold Lucas Leonard was taken into custody for possession of meth amphetamines, possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Clay County Detention Center.

A banner year for the city and county

Residents and visitors to Corning may have noticed the banners marking the city and county’s sesquicentennial. Thanks to the City of Corning, the Corning Area Chamber Commerce, and Growing Corning Together the banners were purchased and placed on utility poles around town to mark Corning and Clay County’s Sesquicentennial.

Datto cues the fireworks . . .

It was the perfect night for fried pies, barbeque, shaved ice and fireworks as people from surrounding communities gathered in the town of Datto. The fifth annual Datto Fireworks Show was held on Saturday, June 24 at 9 p.m. with refreshment vendors available prior to the show beginning at 7 p.m. The fireworks show is supported each year by donations from individuals and businesses in the surrounding communities that allows the pyrotechnics to be greater each year and a community crowd pleaser.
