There likely will not be much fanfare for those who gave so much in order that our generation and those beyond experience a life of freedom.

Clay Co. Jail gets green light to reopen

The Clay County Detention Center has been given the authority to reopen on Monday, May 22, 2023 according to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole. The sheriff received word from the District 3 Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee on Tuesday morning. “We’re cleared to open next Monday evening,” the sheriff said. The facility has the capacity to house 16 females and approximately 46 male inmates. “We are going to start transferring inmates next Thursday afternoon from Green County,” Cole said. “I anticipate having all of our inmates for Clay County moved back by Monday evening.”

Free Fishing Weekend – June 9-11

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has announced that residents and non-residents may fish anywhere in Arkansas from noon Friday, June 9, until midnight Sunday night, June 11, without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters do apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed. To check regulations, go to https:// www.agfc.com/en/fishing/general- fishing-regulations/. The Free Fishing Weekend is an annual tradition sponsored by AGFC and approved by the Governor of Arkansas. The event provides many people and families the prospect of enjoying the vast angling opportunities that Arkansas has to offer.

FFA builds garden boxes at Park Elementary

Corning’s FFA members with advisor and teacher, Sarah Green, spent Tuesday morning, May 17 at Park Elementary building garden boxes in order for students to grow their own plants. Some FFA members didn’t have class but volunteered to work on the project. The lumber for the project was left from the 2019 Corning Community Garden boxes donated by Lowe’s in Paragould.
