Local businesses provide public insight at Business Expo
It was estimated that approximately 75 visitors came through the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center gym to learn about local businesses, and healthcare. Participants at the 2023 Community Business Expo, Job & Health Fair held on Thursday, April 6 engaged in screenings, freebies and raffles. The annual event was hosted by the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce.
Smith featured speaker at April Chamber luncheon
The Corning Area Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the Parkview Restaurant. There were 15 in attendance at the meeting. President Amanda Wiedeman welcomed members and guests and Cliff Gifford offered the prayer.
Corning Cares recipient of Giving Tree Grant
Corning Cares, a philanthropic organization in Corning, concerned with the Christmas wishes and essentials of local children during the holidays, received the 2023 North Delta - Giving Tree Grant through the Arkansas Community Foundation. Carla Price, a founding member of Corning Cares said the organization received the funds with the assistance of Rhonda Ahrent and Mitch Brown in the grant process. Corning Cares accepted the grant at a reception on Tuesday, April 4 at the Black River Technical College in Pocahontas.
RiverBank Helping Hands Fundraiser benefits Corning Public Library
POCAHONTAS – RiverBank employees have created a project to benefit local non-profit organizations in surrounding areas. The project, RiverBank Helping Hands, is a social media led fundraiser designed to give funds based on social media engagement. The program designates giving to four organizations per year, all of which are chosen by RiverBank employees. The Corning Public Library was recently chosen, and $400.00 was the total donation amount.
Five Corning eSports teams make State playoffs
The newly formed Corning eSports had five out of their eight teams, Super Smash team 1, Mario Kart, both NBA 2k23 teams, and the Madden team, make it to the State playoffs that began on April 10. There were 16 teams in Round 1 of the Madden bracket, including the five Corning teams, that made the playoffs.
Lady Bobcats fall to Rivercrest; 5-4
In Game 2 of a doubleheader played at Rivercrest on Tuesday, April 4, the Lady Colts exacted their revenge beating Corning in the final play of the game with the score tied at 4 and Rivercrest at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Bobcats lost despite out-hitting the Colts 9-4. Rivercrest fired up their offense in the second inning, when #4 singled on an 0-2 count, scoring 1 run.
Lady Bobcats beat Rivercrest in dramatic victory; 5-4
With the game tied 4-4 at the bottom of the fifth inning, the Corning Lady Bobcats defeated Rivercrest on their home turf, Tuesday, April 4 in dramatic fashion thanks to a walk-off single by Lyla Arnold. Arnold singled on a 2-2 count, scoring 1 run.
