Corning art students among Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest Winners
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced the winners of the 2023 Arkansas Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest. The annual contest, which is open to students in grades K -12 from across the state, encourages young artists to express their knowledge of conservation, wetlands, and waterfowl while creating beautiful works of art.
Quorum Court Meets for April Session
Times-Democrat News Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, April 17 at the courthouse in Corning with all justices present. After roll call, Justice Dennis Haines made a motion to suspend reading of the minutes from the previous session, this was seconded by Justice Patrick Patterson and unanimously approved.
Sheriff’s Dept. answers call, discover deceased man
On Thursday, April 13, 2023 the Clay Sheriff’s Department received a call from the Missouri Highway Patrol who was contacted by a female stating her husband was on the phone and having trouble breathing. During the conversation she lost contact with him. The woman informed them he was driving a semi-truck trailer. The Highway Patrol stated to the Sheriff’s Department that they had an ambulance enroute to the rest area on Highway 67 North of Corning. Upon arrival at the rest area, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department found a deceased male subject laying beside his truck in the parking lot. The Clay County Coroner was contacted. The deceased was a resident of Puxico, Missouri. His name is being held at this time.
Two arrested for theft of property
In a press release from Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole it was reported that on Monday April 10, 2023 the Clay County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from a cleaning service reporting that a vacant residence was being burglarized on Highway 90 near Holly Island.

Fry Graduates from BRTC Law Enforcement Academy
POCAHONTAS, AR — Deputy Johnny R. Fry of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was one of 45 officers who successfully completed Basic Police Training Course 2023-A at the Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy in Pocahontas, Arkansas.

Lady Bobcats shutout by Lady Pirates; 9-0
It was a tough game for the Lady Bobcats when they went scoreless against Gosnell in a home game on Thursday, April 13 losing by a score of 9-0. The Lady Pirates did not commit a single error during game play. A single by Corning’s Kenlie Watson was a bright spot in the first inning.

Seniors honored during Senior Day observance
Senior Day ceremonies for five seniors on the Corning Bobcat baseball team was Tuesday, April 18 at 3:45 p.m. prior to a game against the Marmaduke Greyhounds at 4 p.m. Graduating seniors, Landon Lucas, Eli Mason, Jax McGrew, John Swint and Jackson Davis received plaques to honor their achievement from Coach Kyle George.
