POCAHONTAS, AR — Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) students attended Draft Day at Nettleton High School recently at the last stop on the Be Pro Be Proud Statewide Draft Day Tour.

Students at Park Elementary have participated in Book Blast Voyage for the past month to start and maintain home libraries to encourage a love of reading. Along the way they have had opportunities to win Treasure Chests stuffed with cash and prizes. Students asked 10 people to donated to their home libraries and this week their books arrived. The students in KC at Park Elementary learning a hands-on lesson about embryology had two chicks to hatch in their classroom on Sunday, April 23. Teacher Shelby Burkheart said, “We were excited to come into class Monday morning to the sound of chirping.
The City of Corning will be hosting its annual city-wide yard sale on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, 6. A yard sale permit does not have to be purchased for this event.
By PAM LOWE This year the Williams Baptist University’s Graduate Award recognized the work of an outstanding MAT Graduate student who shows exceptional skill and effectiveness in regard to promoting student learning and professionalism. This year’s recipient of the 2023 MAT Academic Award was Andrew Radcliff, a coach at Corning High School.
Addison George helped lead the Lady Bobcats with 4 hits to defeat Piggott; 21-11 on Tuesday, April 18. George singled in the 1st, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th inning.
The Corning Lady Bobcats lost to the Manila Lady Lions by a score of 12-2 on Wednesday, April 19 as they struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Manila. The loss was set in motion in the 1st inning when Manila scored on a fielder’s choice groundout, a walk, and an error.
The Lady Bobcats cruised straight to Regionals beating Piggott 12-2 on Monday, April 24 in Districts held at Piggott. The Corning offense was fired up in the 1st inning with Lyla Arnold singling on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring 2 runs.
Senior Day for the Lady Bobcats was Thursday, April 20 at 4:15 p.m. Seniors Jayden Brickley, Madison Vanderberg and Morgan McCallister were presented plaques and softballs signed by teammates by Coach Jerry Songer in recognition of their dedication to the team and the game of softball. Following the ceremony the Lady Bobcats faced the Pocahontas Lady Redskins.
