JONESBORO — Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) released the guidelines for his annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students (grades 9-12) in the First District of Arkansas. This competition is part of a nationwide high school visual arts competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute.
The Clay County Fair Association is excited to announce the theme of the 2023 Clay County Fair is “Blue Jeans ‘n Country Dreams” submitted by Jaydin Stirnaman of Rector. Stirnaman won a free meal ticket from the fair kitchen, two tickets to the demolition derby and a free fair t-shirt for his winning submission.
The Brownie-Pirtle Cemetery Association met Monday evening, March 20 for the annual meeting. Judy Schimming stated, “On behalf of the Association, I want to thank those who have sent or dropped off donations this past year. They are greatly appreciated!” With the 2023 mowing season beginning the cemetery is in need of donations to help with expenses. Jim Creameans, Sr., 74, of Corning passed away March 26, 2023 at home. Mr.
Shirley Ann Culver, 86 of Piggott, AR., passed away March 23, 2023 at home. Mrs. Culver was born September 22, 1936 in Black Rock, AR. She was a pastor’s wife and a devoted mother. She loved reading, singing, playing piano, cooking, serving her church and teaching God’s Word. She was of the Baptist faith. She married the love of her life Loy Culver on November 22, 1956.
Muriel Hawkins, 92, of Corning passed away March 25, 2023 at Corning Therapy and Living Center. Mrs.
The Honor Graduates for 2023 were announced on Tuesday, March 28 by Christy Varvil, counselor at Corning High School. The 2023 CHS graduation will be held Sunday, May 7 at 3 p.m. and the Senior 2023 Academic Awards Assembly will be held on May 4 at 10 a.m. in the CHS Auditorium.

If there’s one attribute that describes Corning residents and bonds the community, it is their pride and love for the Corning Bobcats. This was never more evident than the way the sponsors and volunteers came together for the annual fundraiser presented by the Corning Pride Booster Club. This year’s banquet was held on Saturday, March 25 with featured speaker, legendary coach, Houston Nutt. Nutt is currently a CBS Sports college football studio analyst.
