Clay County turns 150 years old

Clay County celebrated it’s 150th anniversary on Friday, March 24 with a proclamation read by Clay County Judge Mike Patterson in the Corning courthouse at 2 p.m. and at the Piggott courthouse at 12 noon with cake provided to both locations by Harps Foods in Jackson, Missouri. After the courthouse ceremonies, the 10Box in Corning, and the Harps stores in Piggott and Rector served cake from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to honor the occasion.

School Notes

Spring is finally here! As hard as it is to believe, we are on the last stretch of the 2022-23 school year. This is one of the busiest times of the year and can be very trying on teachers, students, and parents.

Park Elementary encourages student home libraries

The Book Blast voyage at Park Elementary began this week. Students have an opportunity to win one of four Treasure Chests stuffed with cash and prizes. One lucky winner at Park Elementary will win an iPad. The 1st winner of the Book Blast Treasure Chest stuffed with cash was Parker Stroud. Pictured is Parker Stroud, center, with his treasure. What’s the point of grades?

If a student plagiarizes an essay, what would their grade on that essay be? A zero, right? “You cheated, so I award you no points.” Makes sense. However, if you give them a zero, does that mean the door is closed to finding out what they know about writing essays? Because that’s essentially what happens.
