CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (01/12/2023)Sophie Townsend of Corning, AR, has been named to the Southeast Missouri State University President’s List for academic achievement during the fall 2022 semester. Students named to the list earned at least a 4.0 grade point average and completed at least 12 hours of standard graded credit in a semester.
According to a report from the Arkansas State Police, a local man, Billy R. Waymon, 88, of Corning was killed in a headon crash on US 67 near County Road 127, west of downtown Corning on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. The crash occurred at 12 p.m. when a 2019 Chevrolet 2500 pickup driven by Dale Ray Griffin, 72 of Dexter, traveling west crossed the center line and hit the eastbound 2009 Toyota pickup driven by Waymon.
MAGNOLIA, AR (01/17/2023)-- Addison Michele Goodman earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in the fall 2022 semester, securing a reputable position on Southern Arkansas University’s Dean’s List. Goodman is a junior Agricultural Business major from Corning, AR.

The Corning girls basketball team will visit Gosnell on Monday and Malden Tuesday, as the Bobcats continue their outstanding season and push towards the post-season. Corning defeated visiting Harrisburg 47-19 last Thursday, running its overall record to 16-3.
