Have you heard the phrase “less is more?” It is an example of a paradox, a statement that is apparently self-contradictory requiring careful thought to determine the meaning. Originally penned by poet Robert Browning and made famous by the designer and architect Ludwig Mie’s van der Rohe, the phrase, “Less is More” came to define the ideals of modernist design and architecture.
State Capitol Week in Review
LITTLE ROCK – A record prize in the Powerball lottery generated increased ticket sales in Arkansas in October. Increased sales of lottery tickets generated an additional $2.1 million for college scholarships, compared to the same month last year.

Did you know that more than 12% of all turkeys produced in the United States are raised right here in Arkansas? Arkansas produces 27 million turkeys per year and ranks third in the nation in turkeys raised. But that’s not the only popular Thanksgiving dish that may have started its journey on an Arkansas farm.

Recount, reporting issues delay House organizational meeting Representative Steve Magie (D-Conway) won re-election to his sixth term in the Arkansas House last week following a recount that confirmed a 10-vote lead over his Republican challenger. Magie’s win gives House Democrats 18 of the 100 seats in the House.
Accepting Applications for Arts in Arkansas Fund
Arkansas Community Foundation, in partnership with CACHE (Creative Arkansas Community Hub & Exchange) invites small arts organizations statewide to apply to the Arts in Arkansas Fund, which will provide grants for general operating support. Applications are being accepted now. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. CST.
