During the November City Council meeting there were questions from the audience concerning city employee salaries being addressed in November per the city’s employee handbook. This was following a statement by Councilman Terry Masterson concerning city employees making negative comments about the city government, specifically on social media. Masterson said he had been seeing city employees bashing the way city government is being conducted. During the conversation, City Clerk J’Anna Couch also indicated that there were rumors around town concerning what the mayor earned that were incorrect. This led to the council being asked how much Covid money was spent and how much the city had received. The city clerk explained the city had $600,000 to replace all of the remaining sewer pumps and then if there was money left over, then it could be used for employee salaries. Monday, November 30, marked the anniversary of the beginning of World War One… November 30, 1917. I had two uncles who were called to service during the war, Oscar and Victor Vines, so I have been told. It was a lot different in all the wars since then because our family, like many, many others, had lots of their loved ones “Over there” or serving our county in other ways. At one time during World War Two, I counted up that I had more than 23 relatives on foreign soil at the same time.
