Wet conditions in the spring delayed planting this year and caused a significant amount of prevented acres. Late planting and hot dry conditions in July, caused the crop to be a couple of weeks later this year. Harvest was delayed with most of the rice crop harvest beginning the week following Labor Day.

Little Rock, Ark.– The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will be providing flu vaccines across the state in preparation for the 2022-2023 flu season starting Monday, September 26. Each county health unit in Arkansas will be hosting a community flu vaccine clinic, which is typically a day-long event when the health unit and numerous community volunteers come together to provide flu vaccine to as many people as possible.
The office of County Judge Mike Patterson has issued a Burn Ban for Clay County on Sept. 27, 2022 until further notice. Arkansas House Bill 1883 allows for an exemption to a burn ban to burn off crops following harvest.
The Clay County Sesquicentennial Book Committee of the Clay County Genealogical and Historical Society announced the cover of the upcoming county history book will be a luxurious black leatherette. A gold embossed seal featuring the county courthouse will complete the cover. A brochure describing the book project and inviting all those with ties to Clay County to submit family histories have been mailed and will also be inserted inside this week’s Clay County Courier. The brochure will include sample histories and tips for preparing a historical sketch not to exceed 500 words. The history and photo will be included in the book free of charge.
