LITTLE ROCK, Ark – Commissioner of State Lands Tommy Land announced that his office will auction tax-delinquent property in Clay County on Tuesday, August 2, at 2 p.m. The auction will be held at the Piggott Community Center, with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Arkansas Department of Finance & Administration Act 757 of 2011 provides for a sales tax holiday in Arkansas during the first weekend of August each year. A sales tax holiday is a temporary period when state and local sales taxes are not collected or paid on the purchase of certain products.
Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, July 18 at the courthouse in Piggott with all justices present. Justice Dennis Haines made a motion to dispense with the reading of the previous minutes.
The Clay County Local Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program has been notified it will be awarded federal funds made available through the State Set-Aside (SSA) process under Phase AR-PA-R of the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP).

As we could have predicted, the next 20 years looks turbulent. It appears we are living in the best of times, and we need to enjoy our way of life while we can. The future of the world will hinge on whether we allow technology and social media to unite us or divide us. So far as a society we are failing in the area of unification. The freedom that the internet allows has spurred some to create division and hate. And I don’t think many of us want to know the evils going on behind the scenes or underground on the World Wide Web.

Eddie Leonard, 78, of Corning, AR., passed away July 4, 2022 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. Mr. Leonard was born April 4, 1944 in Clay County, AR. He was retired from Darling Store Fixtures. Eddie enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and raising chickens. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
