Farmers’ lives are always impacted by the weather and have to take every opportunity to tend to crops. It was no different for the Huckabay farming operation on the morning of the Media Day reception celebrating their Farm Family recognition on June 6. The farmers worked 120 acres that morning, some of which had already been planted twice on low ground that needed to be replanted due to recent rains.
Monday, June 6 during the Clay County Farm Family Media Day hosted by the Larry Huckabay family in their farm shop in the Knob community, County Extension Chair, Stewart Runsick representing the Farm Family Selection Committee for Clay County, presented the 2022 Clay County Farm Family, Larry K. The rich northeast Arkansas soil and farming is buried in the genes of Larry Huckabay and his family. He grew up on a farm as did his late father, Bill and his dad, Odie before him. This year Larry’s farming heritage and his family’s dedication to agriculture is being honored in the 75th annual Arkansas Farm Family of the Year program after being selected as the 2022 Clay County Farm Family of the Year.
Update on Casey Redmon’s prayer requests: Casey reports that a new chemo regiment with chemo pills two months ago is more tolerable and feels it is better than undergoing radiation. She went for an MRI of her brain on Tuesday of last week and a PET scan. The results were better than expected. She said, “Two spots can no longer be seen, two spots have shrunk at least by half if not more, and no new spots showed up!!” She is still awaiting official results from the PET scan but based off the images they received she hopes the report is good. She still goes for infusions of one medicine every three weeks. Casey wants to thank all prayer warriors who prayed on her behalf, saying, “God is so so good.” She requests a continuation of prayers as she battles breast and brain cancer lesions. Chuck Guthrie had open heart surgery on May 31st. His wife, Sandy reports he is doing well post-surgery. Prayers would be appreciated for healing, a quick recovery and health improvement as he regains strength.
