A Meditation on water

Coffee by my side, I sit on the dock, overlooking North Arm Bay of Lake Minnetonka. It is 6:02 a.m. Everyone who writes about these sorts of times describes it as quiet and peaceful. They deliberately ignore the Hitchcockian quantities of birds hellbent on their morning song. It’s loud out here. A family of geese paddle somewhere slowly, honking. A loon calls someone, maybe his mother. I face east which means the sunrise is directly in front of me, just above the horizon. Sunrises are a bit like the Minnesota Vikings, best enjoyed with a gaze that I’ll call indirect. I do not wish to be the guy wearing sunglasses at six a.m., but I suppose we all have a cross to bear.

Arkansas launches Respite Care Program to support families living with dementia

Little Rock, AR – The Arkansas Legislative Council on Friday, June 17, approved the creation of and funding for the Dementia Respite Care Pilot Program to support the 93,000+ Arkansans providing care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. The program, the first of its kind in Arkansas, was established by the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Advisory Council, part of Act 391 of the 93rd General Assembly.

The soffit

The soffit was replaced at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center on Saturday, June 18. It was blown out during a storm and was on backorder. When the material arrived, a gentleman named Hollywood with Universal Builders went to work installing it with the assistance of a co-worker. Photo/Pam Lowe
