Scorpions win Summer Slam

Scorpions Midwest 9U are champions of the Sikeston Summer Slam with a tournament record of 4-1. The team is coached by Chris Smith, Jarred Green, Ben Foster, and Brandon Sisco. The players are from Corning and the Missouri towns of Neelyville, Poplar Bluff, Greenville, Doniphan and East Prairie. This is the second year in a row they’ve won the tournament on Father’s Day.

Clay County Extension Agent Retires

After working at the Clay County Extension Office for 18 years, FCS agent Debbie Baker has retired. A surprise retirement celebration was held Wednesday, June 8 at the Piggott First Baptist Church.. A slideshow of Baker was shown while the attendees enjoyed the delicious meal provided. The venue was beautifully decorated as family, friends and co-workers, past and present, were on hand to congratulate her. Baker was presented with a beautiful engraved vase from the extension office.

STATE CAPITOL WEEK IN REVIEW

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas School Safety Commission has been set up again to update measures to protect students while they are in school. The governor issued an executive order to reinstate the commission in the wake of the mass murder of 19 children and two adults at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24.
