Casey Redman, who is battling breast cancer and brain cancer lesions went for an MRI yesterday and is waiting on results. She will go for a PET Scan on Thursday, May 2. She asks for prayer warriors to pray on her behalf for good results that her cancer lesions are shrinking.

State trap-shooting championship this weekend

LITTLE ROCK – When the top 64 teams from the senior division of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program meet at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex on June 4, those bearing the names Beebe, Fouke, Jacksonville and God’s Great Outdoors of Farmington will be carrying the top seeds going into their respective competition brackets. Junior teams will shoot June 3 with Magnolia, Corning, Southside and Alma squads filling the top seeds in their competition.

Local restaurant sets up Missing Man Table to honor fallen soldiers

Residents driving by the Parkview Restaurant over the holiday weekend may have noticed two tables set up outside the eatery. The tables were to honor fallen veterans. Heather Hodge constructed a Missing Man Table to display over the Memorial Day weekend. The significance of these tables is to honor the brave and selfless American military members who have perished on the battlefield, those who have not returned home after being taken prisoner on foreign soil, and for those who went missing and have not found their way back home.

VFW Post #8347 named for local heroes

Among the names of fallen Clay County Veterans on the Clay County Veteran Memorial at the Western District Courthouse, are brothers-in-law, Staff-Sergeant Norman N. Rapert and Corporal Albert Poynor. Rapert is the late father of Sue Crawley of Corning, while Poyner was her uncle. Both lost their lives in 1944. Albert Poynors, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Poynor, died during the battle of Saipan on July 8th; Norman Rapert, son of Cratis and Nellie Rapert, was first listed as missing-in-action in France on July 27th. Corning’s Rapert-Poynor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8347 is named in honor of Staff Sergeant Rapert and Corporal Poynor.

Experiment station researcher in search of a more water efficient chicken

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — In a world with shrinking freshwater resources for a growing human population, where do you find enough moisture to grow food? You might start by improving water use efficiency in the world’s number one livestock animal — chickens. Sara Orlowski, assistant professor of poultry science, is working toward developing chickens that can thrive on limited water.
