Father’s Day Tribute

As we celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday, we honor the men who played such an important role in our lives. It was suggested in the early twentieth century by a young woman who was one of six children raised by a widowed father. Although the idea caught on and was observed throughout the nation, it wasn’t until President Nixon signed it into law as a national holiday fifty years ago this month that it was an official holiday.

Arkansas Department of Agriculture kicks off Arkansas Farmer’s Market Week

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As summer begins in the Natural State, many Arkansans will turn to farmer’s markets for fresh produce and other farm products to feed their families nutritious meals. To recognize the efforts of local growers and markets, Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward delivered Governor Asa Hutchinson’s proclamation of June 12-18 as Arkansas Farmer’s Market Week. The week coincides with National Farmer’s Market Week.

BRAD Child Development provides children Head Start to learning

BRAD Child Development Centers are a school readiness program for eligible children that help develop a child’s skills in communication, cognition, language, physical, socialization and self-help skills. Children learn and grow in a creative and fun-filled environment. Qualified teachers work individually with children to help them reach learning goals that prepare them for future success.

Stopping the Slide

Summer is a time for kids to kick back, take a break from routine, and enjoy lazy days. It also, in many cases, is when learning loss-aka “The Summer Slide” can take place. Summer setbacks are nothing new regarding academics and the phenomenon has been researched by educators since the beginning of time. On average, student achievement can decline over the summer by up to a third of a prior year’s learning gains. Loss is usually greater in mathematics than reading, and higher grade leveled students are more noticeably affected than younger learners. The summer slide can be measured in both social skills and classroom discipline, in addition to academics.

Hello everyone. It sure is hot outside. Make sure everyone stays cool and drink plenty of liquids. Check on the elderly and pets too. I finally got my first ripe tomato on my birthday. I beat the rooster to it this time. I have been picking a lot of yellow squash. Now my cucumbers are coming off too.
