
Corning Trap Squad wins 1st Place
The Black River Trap & Skeet Club, LLC hosted the 6th Annual Invitational AYSSP format shoot on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Twenty-four squads from all over Northeast Arkansas participated in the event.

Corning Country 4H met on Wednesday, May 11 at the Masonic Lodge. The club discussed their booth for the Hop Alley Rally on Saturday, May 21, 2022. The Corning 4H will be there selling various sweets, treats, and baked goods as a fundraiser for their club field trip to the Tennessee Safari Park on June 4th and supplies for the Clay County 4H Summer Day Camp in Piggott on July 8, 2022. During the meeting, the kids honed their cooking skills making cheesy roll-ups and peanut butter cookies.
LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas is making a massive public investment to bring broadband access to every corner of the state. Last year the state hired a consultant firm, Broadband Development Group (BDG), to develop a master plan.
Road graders and road maintenance discussions were the main topics during the Clay County Quorum Court meeting on Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the Eastern District Courthouse in Piggott. Justices, Dennis Haines, Jody Henderson, Patrick Patterson, Jeff Douglas, David Cagle, Duane Blanchard, David Hatcher, and Darius Smith were present at the start of the meeting along with Judge Mike Patterson. Richie Culver arrived during the meeting and arrived to vote on Ordinance 2022-26 to amend the 2022 budget.
Tryout clinics for the Corning High School Cheerleading Squads began Wednesday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. through Thursday, May 12. Tryouts were Friday, May 13. The judge selected the following gymnasts to serve as the Sr. and Jr. High Cheerleading Squads.
The Arkansas Chiefs won the championship at the For Love of the Game youth baseball tournament presented by CT Sports held on May 13 – May 15, 2022, at Joe Mack Campbell Park in Jonesboro. The Chiefs beat the SEMO Titans to become tournament champions.
Susie Eddington, 82, of Corning, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at home. Mrs. Eddington was born on April 28, 1940 in Success, AR. She had worked as secretary for Biggers Reyno School District and at Farmers and Merchant Bank in Reyno. She was an Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, canning, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She had served as a Sunday School teacher at Reyno First Baptist Church where she was a member.
The Round Two ARP ESSER III Afterschool and Summer grant application opened on May 15, 2022 and will close at 5 p.m. on July 15, 2022. Round two awards will be announced on August 1, 2022. Grants will provide continuation funding for eligible awardees funded in 2021 and will provide access to quality after school and summer programs in underserved areas of the state. The maximum award for round two is $150,000 per award. The grant period for round two is September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022.
