Rainwater family enjoys reunion

The Rainwater Reunion was held on Saturday, April 16 at the Peach Orchard Community Center. The family hid 65 candy and money filled eggs. The meal included Italian beef, ham, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoes, slaw, Watergate salad, rolls, broccoli, lime beans, green beans, duck dressing, bacon wrapped duck breasts, squash casserole, cherry cake, and cherry delight. There were 25 people in attendance.

Looking back while looking ahead

It’s been a few years and memories fuzz and fade, but I recall a history professor who seemed to think part of his calling was to get his students to prepare for “the cosmic cocktail party.” That’s not a euphemism for drugs or a four-figure weekend retreat of enlightenment at a spa. What he meant was, what if you found yourself at the ultimate cocktail party, surrounded by the smartest and most creative and successful people you could think of? Could you hold your own? This is not the time to drop the pig-with-the wooden-leg joke.

Ray McDowell

Mr. Ray McDowell, 82, of Corning, AR., passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at home. Mr. McDowell was born on December 2, 1939, in Piggott, AR. He had worked for the City of Corning, in the street department, and also Johansen Brothers Shoe Factory. He enjoyed working around his house. He was a veteran who had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Homer Harrell Melton, 81, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away April 15, 2022, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, Arkansas. He was born on June 1, 1940, in Piggott, Arkansas, and was the son of Thurman and Lula Bell (Stokes) Melton.

Afterschool & Summer Learning Program Grants

Arkansas State University and its sponsored initiative, the Arkansas Out of School Network (AOSN), are pleased to announce two grant opportunities to provide after school and summer learning programs that address student social emotional development and learning loss as a result of COVID-19. The Arkansas Department of Education’s Division of Elementary and Secondary Education selected ASU and the AOSN in 2021 to administer the grants totaling $25 million over three years.
