Engaging in local politics . . .

We have been through a passionate five- or sixyears discussing politics. This Saturday provides a free opportunity for Clay County residents to actually engage in local politics. It’s a chance to turn our concerns about county issues into stewardship. If we want things to change, we have to put action to the issues we care about in peaceful, constructive ways. It’s a futile exercise for us to sit around hashing and rehashing the issues we want addressed unless we take positive action.

Republican Primary Celebration held

There was fun, food, fellowship and plenty of crawfish and shrimp at the third annual Republican Primary Celebration Crawfish and Shrimp Boil held on Saturday, April 23 at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. Event goers enjoyed the Lake Street Gospel Band and listened to the following speakers in attendance, Clay County Sheriff candidates Ronnie Cole and Russ Latimer, candidates for Arkansas State Representatives District 1, Jeremy Wooldridge and Steve Dixon; candidates running for State Senate District 21, State Senator Blake Johnson and candidate Curtis Hitt. Hosting the event was Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin with Governor Asa Hutchinson concluding as the main guest speaker. Winner of the door prize of a handcrafted AR 15.556 made by Rob Chandler was Kristin Graves.

Clay County Candidate Forum – April 30

The Clay County Courier is hosting the Clay County Candidate Forum, a free community event on Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m. at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center gym. The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for residents of the county to garner information about the candidates specifically running for Clay County Sheriff, Russ Latimer and Ronnie Cole.

Trio builds more than knowledge through women’s outdoor workshops, program

LITTLE ROCK — If you ask Teresa Sollis Gray what her favorite takeaway from this year’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Spring Event held by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, she’ll tell you she has two — Meganne Townsend and Tammie Lenoard. But these three ladies didn’t just get to know one another this spring; their friendship was forged through BOW nearly four years ago.
