Ryan Carter, Democrat, is running for Clay County Justice of the Peace District 7. Carter has served Clay County in several capacities in the past few years. He is the founder of the Corning Community Garden and a board member of Growing Corning Together. He has served two and a half years as an AmeriCorps Volunteer In Service To America (VISTA) and has served as the Access to Healthy Foods Team Leader for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He serves as the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Clay County.
The Arkansas Secretary of State is collecting franchise taxes for all companies registered with the State of Arkansas. Arkansas state law requires all Corporations, LLCs, Banks, and Insurance Companies registered in Arkansas to pay an annual franchise tax.
The James Ranch, an event venue in Pocahontas owned by Mike and Molly James, had some interesting visitors from New York and Memphis to conduct interviews concerning the murder of former State Representative and former State Senator Linda Collins.
Poll worker training for Clay County will begin Saturday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the Corning Warehouse. Other trainings will be Tuesday afternoon, April 12, and Thursday afternoon, April 14, at 3:30 p.m. at the Corning Warehouse. There is a limit of 15 per training session. Additional trainings may be scheduled as needed. You will only attend one of the 3 trainings to be certified to work the polls for any election during the next 2 years. The Primary Election will be May 24. Early Voting will begin on May 9. Please call or text the County Election Coordinator, Karen Cagle at (870) 240-3295 to register for one of the trainings or for more information.
The Clay County Courier will be hosting a candidate forum prior to the Preferential Primary Election on May 24, 2022. The public is invited to the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center on Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m. to learn about candidates running for the office of Clay County Sheriff, Ronnie Cole - Republican and Russ Latimer – Republican.
