1st Baby of 2022 has arrived!

Corning’s 1st Baby of 2022 has finally arrived! Charles Edward Ramsey was born to Zachary and Amy Ramsey of Corning on Monday, March 14 at 5:28 p.m. Born at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Jonesboro he weighed 8 lb., 13 oz. and measured 21 inches in length.

STATE CAPITOL WEEK IN REVIEW

LITTLE ROCK – Certified law enforcement officers will get a $5,000 salary stipend this year, thanks to a Senate bill approved by the Arkansas legislature. To qualify for the stipend, officers must have completed a basic training program approved by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.

Corning Lady Bobcats lose to Walnut Ridge in close battle; 19-14

The Corning Lady Bobcats played Walnut Ridge on March 8 in Corning, but the game took a turn when the score was tied 13-13 in the top of the sixth inning and an error scored a run for Walnut Ridge. The Lady Bobcats of Walnut Ridge took an early lead in the second inning when they scored a run on a single on a 1-2 count. Corning scored 6 runs in the fourth inning. The offense was led by Whitley Bolen, Lyla Arnold, Addison George, Kylie Zimmer and Ava Goodman all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Lady Cats skirt past Greyhounds; 18-1

Corning pitcher Ava Goodman dominated the game against Sloan Hendrix with four hits and leading the Lady Bobcats to an 18-1 win on Feb. 28 in Imboden. Corning scored in the first inning with a single from Lyla Arnold. In the third inning, the Lady Bobcats scored five runs with singles by Kylie Zimmer and Presley Martin and doubles by Goodman and Kenlie Watson. Goodman took the win for Corning, surrendering one run on two hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking zero runners. Lady Greyhound Lauren Jones took the loss for Sloan Hendrix lasting five innings, allowing 14 hits and 16 runs while striking out seven.

Joyce Adams

Joyce Adams, formerly of Mountain View, passed away March 4, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri. Born Margaret Joyce on April 3, 1936, in Clay County, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Emmett and Trella Bippus. She married Glen Alfred Adams on September 2, 1956, and they had three children.

AGFC and USFWS to evaluate deer disease in south Arkansas

Strong- In response to the recent detection of a deer with chronic wasting disease in Union County, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA APHIS Wildlife Services will conduct a sampling effort on Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge during the next week to further understand the prevalence of the disease in south Arkansas.
